Stereophonics to headline concert at Wrexham Glyndŵr University Racecourse Stadium

Stereophonics will headline a landmark concert at Wrexham Glyndŵr University Racecourse Stadium this summer.

The Welsh rockers will be joined by Brit Award winners Catfish and the Bottlemen and special guests on Saturday 2 July.

Up to 20,000 people are expected to attend the gig, the first since Motorhead and Twisted Sister played at the ground in 1982.

The university and partner VMS Live spent months organising the event with the aim of delivering a top-class day of live music for the region.

Lynda Powell, Director of Operations at Wrexham Glyndŵr University, said: “This has taken a lot of time and effort from VMS Live and ourselves but we are delighted to announce these brilliant acts will be appearing here this summer.

“It’s more than 30 years since the stadium has held a concert so getting a top name like Stereophonics, and rising stars Catfish and the Bottlemen, is a major coup for us.

“We hope this will be the first of many live shows taking place at the stadium over the coming years as our relationship with VMS Live grows stronger.”

She added: “We will work together to bring more top names to Wrexham, so watch this space.”

With career sales topping 10 million albums, Stereophonics have a huge summer ahead with 10 dates already planned including a headline slot at the Isle Of Wight Festival in June.

Llandudno outfit Catfish and the Bottlemen are celebrating victory at last week’s Brit Awards, having picked up the prize for Best Breakthrough, and said they are “so excited” to be playing the Wrexham show.

The artists will become the first to play a live gig at the stadium since the 1982 Wrexham Festival, when hard rock legends Motorhead, Budgie, Tank, Raven, Orion and Twisted Sister powered out the music at the home of the town's football club.

The Stereophonics - Kelly Jones on vocals and guitar, Richard Jones on bass, Adam Zindani on guitar and Jamie Morrison on drums - are regarded as one of the country's top bands, and their latest acclaimed No1 album, Keep The Village Alive, features recent hit singles C'est La Vie, I Wanna Get Lost With You and Song for the Summer.

Tickets go on sale this Friday at 9am. For more information, visit or the newly-launched university events website
