Acclaimed artist to launch new exhibition at Oriel Sycharth Gallery
Acclaimed Anglo-Canadian artist Lisa Milroy will launch an exhibition of a selection of her works from the past 20 years at the Oriel Sycharth Gallery on Monday 12 October.
Entitled Social Fabric the exhibition invites visitors to consider how the everyday activities of ‘choosing’ and ‘making’ contribute to our sense of identity and the construction of the self.
The exhibition will opens with a Private View and drinks reception in the Oriel Sycharth Gallery at 5pm.
Earlier in the day Lisa will be in conversation with Professor Estelle Thompson, head of the division of media, art and design at Glyndŵr University and curator of the Oriel Sycharth Gallery, at a special event starting at 2pm.
Lisa Milroy was born in Vancouver and is now based in London, where she is Head of Graduate Painting at UCL’s Slade School of Fine Art. She is also a Member of the Royal Academy of Arts.
Professor Estelle Thompson said: “Lisa Milroy is an exceptional artist with a world-class reputation and excellence in her field.
"The works on show will be paintings of items of clothing and shoes, just a small part of Lisa’s varied collection, and we are privileged to be able to show them in Wrexham for the rest of the year.”
Social Fabric runs from 12 October until 22 January 2016. Entry to the opening night and remainder of the exhibition is free, and the gallery is open to the general public from 9am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday.
