Wales Comic Con crowned Best Visitor Event

The hugely successful Wales Comic Con, which takes place at Glyndŵr University, has cemented its place as one of North Wales’ top visitor attractions by being named Best Visitor Event 2015 in the Wrexham Tourism Ambassador Awards.

The annual awards, coordinated by the Wrexham Destination Partnership, celebrate the best of Wrexham’s tourist attractions and visitor experiences. The local tourism industry is going from strength to strength, with the visitor economy up by 27.3% since figures, making it one of the fastest growing areas of the UK.

Wales Comic Con is a one-day fan convention giving visitors the chance to attend autograph sessions, photo shoots and Q&A sessions with artists, writers and stars from the world of TV, film and comics.

The brainchild of Mercury Promotions, an events management company based in North Wales, it started as a small annual convention taking place in Glyndŵr University’s Sports Centre but has quickly evolved into an event that spans the entire University campus, and attracts thousands of people from all over the world.

Haydn Hughes, Conference and Events Manager at Glyndŵr University, said: “We are delighted to host the Wales Comic Con right here in Wrexham.

“The convention is a fantastic vehicle for showcasing the variety of venues and facilities that the University has to offer. And it’s great that we have the capacity here to accommodate the high volume of visitors that the event attracts.”

The event has proved so popular that it now takes place twice a year. Hot on the heels of the success of Part 1 in April, plans are well underway for Part 2, which takes place on Sunday 29th November, and will feature stars from Game of Thrones, Doctor Who, The Hobbit films, Harry Potter, Torchwood, Stargate among countless others.

Tickets start from £10 for adults and £5 for children and can be purchased via the following link:
